ZeusIt has now been 3 years since Zeus was diagnosed with a heart sized cancerous mass in his chest. He was in really bad shape, and wasn’t expected to live more than a few short days, maybe weeks, but three years later, he’s still here!

He gets 1 prednisone pill (5 mg) a day, and that still seems to be keeping the mass small enough that he can live life to the fullest.

At an estimated 15 years old now, he’s slower and weak at times, still skinny, he’s got a back leg that clicks, and he spends most of the winter by the wood stove. He’s a cuddly snuggler, but only with Jeff and I. He isn’t fond of anyone else. He’s made so many people cry by chasing their feet, or blocking the path.

I still don’t quite know what inspired me to go to the shelter that day in 2001, and to pass by all the cute kittens and fuzzy cats, to fall for this deceptively sweet grey tabby cat. I’m allergic to cats, why did I want one?

I am his fifth owner, and despite him biting me daily for at least the first 6 months, I refused to give him up. For whatever reason, it was meant to be, and for now, Zeus still has no where he’d rather be.
