Doggie Pedicure
July 8th, 2008Monty is in another dog show this weekend in PEI. So it's bathing, grooming, and styling week! Well not so much on the styling because the goal is to have his coat look thick and beautiful, but to be relatively straight!
Cutting Monty's nails is the most unbearable part. He hates it. We battle. Last year we bought a Dremel multi-tool so now I grind his nails down. He bears it a little more but it can take 4 days for me to get every nail short enough, and by then he's got his ears tucked back and he runs and hides at the very sight of me. We used to try to pin him on the bed, but he won that battle by peeing on our duvet.
Today he has a vet visit - just an annual visit that is several months over due. He'll probably have to get some vaccines. I'm so willing for them to sedate him and cut his nails super short, but then I'd have to go there all the time for them to do it and that would mean me admitting failure.
My last Golden Retrievers, Winger and Surf, were so good at pedicure time. They'd lie on their backs and snooze while I snip snip snipped their nails off. Monty fights every bit of it. Could he have super sensitive nerves in his nails? Or does he just like the battle?
Fresh Strawberries
July 5th, 2008We live right down the road from two strawberry growers. I gotta tell ya, these are NOTHING like the strawberries you buy in the grocery store. These are full of colour and taste. My fingers are actually red already from them!

SWARM!
July 3rd, 2008We got the herd of ants under control last night. Today I'm going to pick up a couple of those ant trap poison baits that I can hide somewhere away from the canines and the feline.
But you know the excitement couldn't be over.
This morning Jeff got vicious stung by a wasp just going out to his truck! My Golden Retriever Monty got attacked by a couple of wasps in the same area on Tuesday. Why are the wasps becoming so protective of our deck?
Well now we know. Jeff said he found a wasp nest under our top step going on to the desk! He soaked it with wasp spray.
I'm becoming a fan of pesticides ;-)
Do they make snake-icides too?
The whole HERD!
July 2nd, 2008I grew up in the country, but I sure don't remember having to experience so much wildlife!
I just came in to my office to get some work done. I sat down and right away had to kill two itty bitty ants that crawled along the edge of my desk. In seconds I realized they were everywhere! The entire HERD OF ANTS IS IN MY OFFICE!!
Smack, squish, thump, bang. I'm killing ants as I yell for Jeff to come and help!
I had left my window open all day because it's really hot today. The screens don't fit totally tightly in these wooden framed windows so I guess the entire herd decided to crawl around the screen and explore my desk for sweet things. I have no food in my office so I don't know what they were after. Hopefully they aren't the little crazy ants from Houston that are attracted to electronics!
Jeff and I just killed every ant that made an appearance and then Jeff sprayed the window ledge on the outside with ant RAID.
Oh! there's another ant, gotta go...
Deer on the Front Lawn!
June 29th, 2008Last week I looked out the window to see this girl on the front lawn!! She went down the driveway and stood on the edge of the driveway for 10 minutes at least. She was constantly looking back at the house like she was looking for someone. Hope she found whoever she was looking for! Maybe she was the baby deer's mom? Jeff took these great photos:
