Wanderlust

WanderlustI went to see Wanderlust at the theatre yesterday.

Jeff strongly opted out, so I went to New Glasgow and did a little clothes shopping before the movie.

As always, I made sure I got to the theatre super early so I could snag my favourite seat. Unfortunately there was another couple in the back row middle, so I took the left flank a few seats down.

For a 4pm Saturday show, I expected more people. I am not sure we made the double digits. I think I was the youngest. None of them laughed at anything, and one of them even asked a staff member to adjust the fan and heat levels before the flick.

Anyway, what did I think of the movie?

I like Judd Apatow movies. Wanderlust didn’t disappoint. It came complete with nudity (mostly male for once, although Jennifer Aniston does have a topless scene, although it was fuzzed out), drug use (even ayawaska), sex, crazy hippies, and to top it off – a “Babba Booey, Howard Stern” shout-out.

I wouldn’t say you have to run out and see it though. It is definitely a good movie for a DVD rental, or waiting for the Movie Channel airing on a rainy day.

The storyline was one-dimensional and predicable, but some of the scenes will stick with me for awhile (including the fly in the apartment, and the “I can fly” moment).

There were also several pop-culture references in this movie that could zip right over your head. Like a reenactment of that reporter who falls out of the grape stomper (see original). I caught a few of them, but I am not a Ray Liotta fan, so I don’t understand at all why he was in the last minute of the movie and what it was referencing.

I give it a 6/10.

Disappointed by our movie selection

We were thinking about going to New Glasgow today and maybe catching a movie! That is the closest large theatre to us. We don’t see many movies in theatres anymore.

I googled today’s movie selections and am so disappointed! All the actors I can’t stand: Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise – every one of them with a new Hollywood blockbuster for Christmas, everyone of them a horrible actor, and everyone of them with a bigger god-like complex than the next. All put there by their fans. Sickening.

So I guess we probably won’t see a movie today.

Monty the Guard Dog

We were most worried about traveling with the cat, but it turned out to be Monty that is the bugger! Just like his Uncle Winger before him, Monty wants to bark if he hears a noise at night in the motel. Then we pounce on him to tell him to be quiet and groan and try to get back to sleep. He’s done it both nights; last night was the worst. I even took him out to “use the lawn” around 2:30am. He is awake and walking around in the motel rooms all night. So we finally got up around 5:30 and gave up trying to sleep. And now the little rascal is sleeping beside this desk chair.

This motel is nice and pet friendly – the Comfort Inn – we actually are in New Glasgow, I thought because I could see the Stellarton water tower that we weren’t all the way to New Glasgow, but we are! Our room even has a fridge and a microwave but we didn’t really need it. It’s right beside Wendy’s so I walked over and got us a each a Southwest Taco Salad for dinner last night. Yummy!

I still don’t have the mailing address of Trudy or my cousins Amy, Sarah, and Stephanie – so if you have those addresses, please email me! Thank ya!

We’re in Nova Scotia

We’re in Nova Scotia!
And we’re tired and going to bed, so here is the brief low-down.
We’re in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. We’re only 58.2 km from Antigonish (or so says Google maps). We stayed in a little dive motel last night just of Drummonville, Quebec. We visited with Jeff’s friend’s outside Ottawa for 3 hours and had dinner there. It was nice to visit and meet his good friends.
Montreal was yucky, not because of traffic, because of so many turns and merges and once we all of a sudden had to be over 3 lanes and exiting. I didn’t care for it at all. New Brunswick has a new highway that is about to open all the way down to Fredericton – after that you can pretty much go from Waterloo to Antigonish on a split fast highway (speed limits are 110 out here).
Zeus has done sooooo awesome – not a single accident in his crate and he is fantastic in the hotel rooms. We’re really relieved. I think he likes riding in this bigger crate better (Monty’s plastic puppy kennel) and we put him back with the dogs so he can see them.

-gotta take Monty outside, brb-

back, and something just crawled into my sandal and stung the top of my foot. OUCH. Must have been one of those biting ants or something. It stings really bad, but not quite as bad as the two wasp stings did on my arm a couple weeks ago. Oh cool, a bump is starting to swell.
Okay, we’re going to bed. At 10am tomorrow we meet with the real estate agent who is taking us out to the house for a pre-closure inspection. Then we will go back into Antigonish to meet the lawyer at 12:30. Remember we’re in the Atlantic time zone now so we get to live each hour before we hand it off to you ;D
