The 2011 Komatsu 300 at the James River Speedway

If you are still on dial-up, come back in an hour while this post loads :D

Today I went to the Komatsu 300 race, part of the Canadian Tire NASCAR series at the James River International Speedway.

I was a little hesitant to go, because Jeff is away, but why sit at home and pine away for my husband when I could be breathing in the exhilaration of a stock car race!!

It was a BEAUTIFUL afternoon for a race. Mostly sunny, but with a brisk cold wind!

Hurricane Maria passed by, be free earthworms, and time to crack the whip

What a gorgeous, sunny evening here in Lochaber!

I *LOVE* how much more sun and lake view we have with some of our trees cut down. I can’t wait until Jeff gets home and we can cut many more down!

Hurricane Maria passed Nova Scotia today, quickly, and at least 100km beyond my nearest shore. It was so sticky and humid still this morning. I had to wear my hair twisted up in a hair clip. A co-worker commented that she liked it up, and I told her that the humidity made my hair so big I would have had to take a personal day because it wouldn’t fit through the front doors.

By mid-morning the stickiness in the air quickly left and it is now crisp and cool and perfect outside. I don’t mind cool, and I LOVE sunshine :-) Hopefully there isn’t too much damage in Newfoundland, but Maria was moving so fast the storm couldn’t have lasted too long there.

I just set our earthworms free. Have I ever told you that Jeff has an earthworm farm in the basement? We use them when we go fishing. He even has earthworm food. Well their habitat was getting a little ripe and they weren’t doing so good when I checked on them yesterday, so with Jeff’s permission, I just set them free in the garden.

Speaking of garden, we have more green peppers coming, and we actually have jalapenos on the way!! That is the first time we’ve seen any jalapeno peppers. We stubbornly plant them every year. Next year all the peppers are going in containers so I can baby them.

Back to the worms, I am really hoping fishing season isn’t over yet. We’ve only been out in the boat twice this summer!! It feels like this summer was so short. Seriously, I can never take another course or big project in my summer time (don’t I say that EVERY year?) Anyway, fishing season is still open on our lake until the end of the month so I hope we can get out at least once more (I’ll dig up some fresh wormies).

So tonight I have a long night of wrapping up my last assignment for my GIS course. Time to crack the whip! I only have until the end of September to get this assignment done and to take the final exam.

I’m rockin’ right now to the 90′s on 9 station on Sirius. Sally is sitting on the window ledge beside me, with her hair blowing in the breeze. She is doing so much better – back to normal I’d say – and I don’t think she is going to need a hair trimming. Between the two of us, we have mats almost all gone.

Monty is outside on the porch, and Zeus is soaking up some warm sunshine and wondering why I won’t let him outside. Now he’s meowing. I just can’t get over that I still have Zeus. He’s outliving all expectations!!

OH I can’t take it – it’s too nice outside – must go take photos.

Back – 5 minutes later with 52 photos. I just walking around the yard taking photos until I heard something really weird sounding in the woods and chickened out and came back inside. Here is my walk around the yard:

Okay enough procrastinating, work time!

Labour Day Drive to Port Hilford and Little Liscomb

I’ve written my quiz for the last section for my course FOUR times and I’m still not satisfied with my mark. Luckily Jeff was game this afternoon for getting-the-heck-outta-the-house so we headed out, destination unknown, armed with the camera and binoculars.

The first place we ended up was the beach at Port Hilford. We’ve driven by many times, but I have never gone out on the beach. Except for the odd stone, the beach is all sand. It’s a beautiful beach!! With hardly any people!

To get to the beach, you have to cross a little creek:

After that, the hidden gem – a sand beach that you can’t see from the road!

Jeff can always find treasures on the beach:

The beach was crawling with shore birds. These two were really bold, and thought they’d be brave enough to run by me.

But then they chickened out and flew past me.

Empty shell, no one home.

Then we ended up at the Little Liscomb shore. No sand here – all rocks. We’ve been here many times before. Great spot, no people.
