In my previous post, I completely neglected to review the other Hollywood blockbuster I saw recently. Gravity!
This movie was all the rage last summer. I had theatre plans to see it after it was released, but didn’t end up watching it until it hit the movie channels recently.
Unfortunately I have nothing complimentary to say about Gravity. Instead, I will say it was dumb, ridiculous, and really nothing more than a cheesy, made for TV movie, easily seen and forgotten, like it was destined for airing on the Space channel some late night.
Hopefully you haven’t seen it yet and I’ve saved you. If not, I’m sorry.
My rating is a 1/5 stars.
I have American Hustle saved on the PVR. Here’s hoping!

I object — Gravity is a clear 5/5 if you ask me. Great, intense storytelling, brilliant acting performances and a good soundtrack. Grips you tightly and leaves you breathless. For a sci-fi it’s also somewhat scientifically accurate which is always a bonus. I see it as an ode to the classics and in the same vein as more recent films like Moon or Sunshine, which are also highly watchable.

That’s so funny, Isaac, that people can watch a movie and have such different opinions. My Dad called me to say he disagreed too, but he watched it in a movie theatre so that must have helped with the effects.

American Hustle, another total dud. It was a long one, 2.5 hours, and even in all that time, I couldn’t develop any feelings for the main characters. Didn’t love them, didn’t hate them. I was indifferent to whether they succeeded or failed. Maybe I’ve watched too many chick flicks on the women’s network channel lately and I’ve been ruined for the Hollywood blockbuster.
