My new computer – SSD hiccups

In my beautiful new computer that I bought in January, my new powerhouse, I have a Solid State Drive (SSD) as my boot drive, and a regular 1 terabyte drive for everything else.

For the second time now in the last month, all of a sudden while I’m working, my computer shuts off like the power plug was pulled and it won’t reboot. It gets stuck on the boot drive and nothing happens.

Both times I have somehow kept my composure and calmly fixed it.

What fixes it, is turning off the computer, disconnecting the power, and then holding my finger on the power button to totally drain all power from the box. Then I reconnect the power and turn it on and everything is fine.

I have another external drive that is always backing up both drives so if the SSD dies, I can copy the boot files to a new boot drive, but it is nerve racking. (I also have all my files backed up to Carbonite because I’d like to never lose a file again in my life.)

This time it flicked off at the same time that Jeff turned off the switch for the wood stove’s fan in the basement. I have my computer power coming through a UPS though, so that should have been just a coincidence.

The specs on the SSD I have are:
OCZ Vertex 2 Extended Sandforce 120GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
