Tuesday’s Plans

We didn’t hear anything yet (but didn’t expect to).
Once we negotiate and get the final price, the deal is dependent on financing, house inspection, house appraisal, and a water test. We’re asking them to pump out the septic tank and provide their heating costs and land survey.

Lawyers closing fees are WAY more out here. Yuck.

Hey did I mention they regulate their gas prices out here to so every single gas station is 116.9 for Regular.

Soon we’re going down for the buffet breakfast special in the hotel. It is in the Antigonish Highland Games this week and coming weekend so there are some special events. Today we’re hopefully going to catch the RCMP Musical Ride! That’ll be awesome!

Offer is in… Now we wait….

The offer is in. We low-balled their asking price so we’re expecting a bit of a back and forth game. The owners have transferred jobs to Ontario so their agent has to track them down to let them know they have an offer so we aren’t expecting anything until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

No lobster yet. We went to where the agent said there was fantastic seafood, and it was at a wharf, but it was all deep fried with fries – not really what we’re looking for!

We made it down to Sherbrooke. Small small town – pop 400. Beautiful area. Everything around here is beautiful. People keep their properties very clean and tidy. Tons of trees and lakes and hills. I’d love to tell you about our potential house, but you know, don’t want to jinx it ;D

Monday Morning

It’s Monday morning and we’re off in an hour to view houses.

This hotel seems to be an old building that has been updated a bit to make it into this conference centre. The room has laminate flooring – I’ve never seen a hotel without carpet before, but this is supposed to be a “green” hotel that is clean and safe without harsh chemicals and stuff. Well I have to say it has the BEST hotel shower EVER! The bathroom and tub is old and not modernized – but the pressure in the shower – 88| – totally incredible! We’re here until Friday – I might have to have a couple of those showers a day. I know Jeff is used to piddly rain showers so he’s about to get in the shower right now, I can’t wait for his reaction when he blows through the back wall hehehehe. And it’s not razor blade pressure, it’s thick and doesn’t hurt.

I had dreams about the first two houses we’re going to see. I hope they are better than my dreams! It was really cool when our real estate agent took us on her car/hover craft across the lake though.

Updates later!

Antigonish, Nova Scotia

We’re in Antigonish! I love wireless internet in hotels! The flight was good. First time I flew WestJet. It was no different than Air Canada except for some reason everyone clapped when the plane landed. That was weird.

Tomorrow morning we head out with the real estate agent to look at the properties we selected. We went to look at our favourite one tonight. It’s up high on a hill behind trees so we couldn’t see it from the road. It has a great view of the lake it looks like. I hope it goes well tomorrow!

Antigonish is maybe 1.5 hours from the Halifax airport. There was not a single stop light or stop sign on the way AND the speed limit was 110 for a lot of the drive, 100 for the rest.

We ate at Boston Pizza (across the parking lot from the hotel) tonight for dinner. I had the best pizza I’ve had in a LONG TIME (since I lived in the Sault for the last 6 years and their pizza blows). This pizza we got had onions, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, green pepper, and shrimp! YUMMMMMMM

There is a Highland Games Festival here later this week. Not sure if we’ll catch any of it or not.

Alright, that is all for tonight.

Cecilia was Right!!!!

Cecilia was right!!!

There has been a DRASTIC decrease in the mosquito population this week and it has made an incredible difference in my life.

I’m not miserable anymore. I don’t dread going outside. I’m not itching non-stop. I’m not cursing the mosquitos. I am still getting bit, but maybe 5% as many as I had been for the last 2 months.

It’s been a GREAT week. On Wednesday Uncle Paul picked me up and I went out to Terry Johnston’s cottage for a night. It was a GREAT time. Uncle Phil and Doreen and Kiana where there with Doreen’s Dad. Uncle Joe was there. It was the Verkley cottage for the week! They all had free lodging for their work. The biggest goal of the week was getting up the wood tongue and groove for the walls. This wood was incredible – the Johnston’s took down a dead elm tree and got it milled and planed – cut into thick tongue and groove boards. It looks so neat on the walls – the wood has some real character.

We have to use a boat to get to the camp – less than 5 minutes on the boat though – it isn’t long at all. But the cottage has full power and telephone service – even satellite TV!

My little cousin Kiana was a lot of fun to play with. A little exhausting. She just turned 3. We coloured and played games and watched Barney (the horror!). She’s only just 3 and already knows all her letters and can spell her name and knows her shapes. Smart kid. But she never gets tired!

Jeff picked me up at the boat dock yesterday afternoon. They had all the officers in Ontario together for meetings up here this week so we went to a barbeque last night and I got to meet his co-workers. Very nice guys – many of them were talking to me about Nova Scotia and they all think we’ll really like it out there.

We’re flying out on Sunday for a week for the house hunting trip. I really hope our favourite house we see on MLS turns out to be everything we want it to be so we can buy it and get everything rolling while we’re out there. I won’t even think about what we’ll do if we don’t find anything.

I was only at that cottage for a couple days, one night, but I feel like I just had a week long vacation. Getting me out of the house and away from taking care of the pets for a couple days was JUST what I needed!

Canada Day

Julie took Jeff and I on the Canada Day Evening Island Queen Cruise for an engagement present! It’s a big cruise boat that took us (and up 550 others) out from 7-10pm on Canada Day. The boat cruised in a big loop around some of the 30,000 islands before it returned to the sound for the holiday fireworks after dark!

It was really chilly – especially up on the top deck where we spent the entire cruise. The forecast was a low of 4°C with a risk of frost! Of course I brought my mittens and toque so I was prepared for the weather. Julie and Jeff just laughed and took pictures of me most of the time though!
