Our treat to celebrate the end of the year was gigantic Alaskan King Crab Legs! Jeff bought three of them yesterday and he steamed them up for dinner tonight.
They were delicious! Afterwards I had to call Dad to brag about what we had!
We pulled it off! Jeff and I managed to attend all the Christmases for both of our families together. I had a great time all week. I apologize to anyone who caught my germs – I’ve been sick since Christmas. My cold has now moved into the coughing like a dog and hackin’ up green goop stage. I’ve spend parts of each night on the futon in the living room so I don’t keep Jeff up all night.
Here is Jeff and I at the Verkley family Christmas on the 23rd:
On the 24th Dad treated us to a football game! We went to Buffalo to watch the Buffalo Bills play the Tennessee Titans. Buffalo lost by one point!
I’ve never been to a NFL game before. What a different world we entered! Tens of thousands of people flock to the area of the game to have tailgate parties. It was wild!
It was a coooool windy day. Jeff and I thought we were so smart with our thermal seats we brought to place on the cold stadium seat. Who would have guessed that everyone STANDS for the ENTIRE game!!
For the first half, I wasn’t really too in to it. I was cold and crowded and the no brain fans behind and in front of us were driving me nuts. In the second half, I decided to dance and cheer (to keep warm) but it was infectious and I started to follow the game more. It really takes work – when you watch a game on TV, the camera follows the guy with the ball. When you are in the stands, it is more difficult to figure out who is cupping the ball in their arms.
Here are some photos:
More updates and photos to come – I wouldn’t want to overwhelm you all at once
Just one last day at work and tomorrow we hit the road for our fun-filled, family packed, tour of Southern Ontario!
Be sure to watch the Buffalo Bills vs Tennessee Titans NFL football game on Sunday December 24th because we’ll be there! Jeff and I might even sport our Santa hats B)
Have a Happy Holiday. I’ll post here with updates of our holiday when I can!
ACK!
Thank goodness I was sitting here on my computer about 30 minutes ago.
I heard a gurgle gurgle gurgle. I looked over and saw a HUGE puddle on the floor – huge meaning it stretched from my office door all the way over to the closet!!!
It was aquarium water!!
What I think happened – I use a simple filter in the aquarium – the old box filter with charcoal and aquarium filter fluff. I think one of the dogs knocked the air hose off of the air pump on the floor. Then the hose reversed and it started pumping all the water on to the floor until it reached the top of the box filter where it gurgled. That means there was about 5 gallons of water on the floor before I noticed it! What if I wasn’t home!?!?!
I quickly unplugged the cords from the power source and then I ran for towels and then more towels and then Jeff woke up from his nap to grab more towels. Nothing seems too damaged – the fans are on and everything is picked up out of the water.
This traveling salesman put over a million miles on his car – 1989 a Saab 900 SPG. That is equivalent to 1.6 million kilometres.
Now he’s donated his car to a museum and Saab has decided to give him a new Saab 9-5 Aero and offer one to anyone else who put one million miles on a Saab as the original owner.
So it’s time to buy a new Saab this holiday season. Drive everywhere and in 17 years or so, you too could have your very own new Saab! wait… yes… your very own new FREE Saab :p
I got to spend it with two of my favorite guys – Jeff and my Dad!
We had a group trip to Home Depot where we picked out a new bathroom tap for the sink. The one I had was leaking and parts of the cold water handle broke off in Jeff’s hand last week! Dad installed a new one – the kind I like the best – just one tap that does hot and cold.
Julie sent me a birthday package in the mail. In it was a candle that smelled EXACTLY like birthday cake! We kept taking the lid off to sniff it all weekend!
She also included this really wacky straw that had a set of glasses in the middle of the straw. See for yourself!!
For dinner, we went to the Kewadin Casino across the river for their prime rib and snow crab leg buffet. There is just sooooo much food there. Dad was getting really good at cracking the shells open on his crab legs by his 2nd or 3rd plate of them. There was also a pasta bar, and soup, and pot roast, and veggies, and chinese food, and shrimp, and scallops. I had a strawberry daiquiri for my birthday too! For dessert there was pies and cakes and brownies and cookies. Oh and ice cream too! I had a piece of blueberry pie with whipped cream. I added ice cream too of course. Then I had the most incredible cranberry and white chocolate cookie. THEN I got an entire free birthday cake to bring home!!
We gambled a bit after that. What a lucky day. First we get to customs and there isn’t a single car in front of us. Then we get a massive meal for the most incredible price. Then we gamble and not only do Dad and I win back every cent, to the cent, that we gambled, but Jeff did plus an extra $15 !
After we squeezed our stuffed stomachs back into Jeff’s truck, we again hit customs with NO one in front of us. The customs officer was doing a crossword puzzle!
To top it off, guess what Dad, who obviously reads my blog, got me for my birthday?
He got me some beautiful flowers too. I need to take a photo of those and put it on here too.
Jeff secretly blew up three outdoor scenes I’ve photographed over the last couple of years. He made them black and white and framed them – so beautiful! What a sweetie. He sure knows how to pick out a present!! One photo is of a daisy, one is a fall shot of a trail surrounded by fall leaves, and another is of a big wave on Lake Superior.
Dad left this morning and I watched the movie Prancer in bed and then had a nap. The perfect kind of Sunday. I even dreamed about Grandma Verkley and she gave me a big hug in my dream. I’ll take that my birthday hug
Yes that is right, tomorrow is the best day of the year because it’s my BIRTHDAY! 88|
Dad just called from Woodstock. He’s on his way up for the party!!
I think Jeff, Dad, and I will go across the river for the crab leg and roast beef buffet at the casino tomorrow night!!
And for the curious, I will be turning 31.
It’s been quite a culture shift since turning 30 last year. Changes I’ve noticed:
I’m now greeted with a “ma’am” instead of a “miss” at banks and stores
I have more gray hairs every day. Those that don’t grow back in gray just don’t grow back in at all leaving a thinning mop on my head
Regardless of my marital status, people think I need to have babies and plead with me to have children before it becomes too difficult or too late
I was given a free carnation on Mother’s day at the bank even when I pleaded that I wasn’t a mother
I am losing touch with the music-of-today’s generation. Right now I’m shuffling the greatest hits of Elton John, Neil Diamond, Cher, and Gordon Lightfoot.
If anyone wants to join us for dinner tomorrow night, come on up!
These damn tonsils are causing me so much grief. I feel so sick and achy and miserable. I’m at work, but wish I was wrapped up in my duvet on my bed. I have zero appetite. My ears are thoroughly annoyed with my swollen tonsils. This better clear up soon because I’m tired of being so whiny.
