4 Movie Weekend

Here is a quick overview of our latest rentals:

Lucky Number Slevin – Decent movie. We pieced together the clues and figured it out before the end. 3.5/5

Click – Adam Sandler movie – had some laughs. Nice life lesson. I’ll say 3.5/5.

Poseidon – Overall pretty stupid, but it kept my gut clenched for most of it – it was a little tense as people were continuously drowning and dying. 3/5

Can’t remember what it was – It was some sequel movie that was based on a comic book. I only watched the last 20 minutes because I was not at all interested in it. So I suppose I am not qualified to rank it. Now what the heck was that one called… There was a blue man in it played by Kelsey Grammer if that helps.

Day off!! Vote Placed!!

Working for the Government has a few perks – okay at least one – I get today off for Remembrance Day that was on Saturday.

It’s also the day of voting for our Municipal elections, so I just walked over to the neighbourhood school gym to place my vote!

Jeff is off deer hunting. Yesterday he was stopped on the highway for an accident up ahead of him. He waited in his truck for an hour watching the ambulances and police cars go by. Then an air ambulance landed on the highway not to far ahead of him. He was eying some vehicles that were leaving the highway and going down a snowmobile trail! None of them were coming back, so when the highway department came by and said the highway would be closed for another 5-7 hours with no detour, he went down the snowmobile trail too and somehow went around the accident.

Today I’m going to catch up on some web work here at home. I’m also going to the mall for a bit. I would like some more cory catfish because I only have one fish now that Morris the Betta died of old age. I keep looking at the fish in Walmart but they are so sick and diseased and some are dead. I think I’ll look around at the other pet stores today.

I might go see Borat tonight. It’s supposed to be full of laughs and I love laughing. Jeff said he wasn’t remotely interested in seeing it so I’ll go solo while he’s gone.

We rented four movies over the weekend now that Jeff has moved in his entertainment centre (big tv and surround sound stereo). I’ll review them in a separate post.

Dad stopped by for a quick visit!

Dad arrive last night, 7′ish, for a quick overnight visit.

He brought me the beautiful round solid oak table that Uncle Joe had made for Grandma and Grandpa a couple of years ago. When the family got together to empty Grandma’s apartment, they decided I could have the table!

And we really needed one too! It came with 4 nice green swade covered chairs. Jeff has a big oak table, but it’s way too big for my kitchen. Before we just used tv stands for dinner, but a month or so ago I set up my card table again in the kitchen. The only thing is was it was short and very wobbly. I’m so lucky to have this one!

Dad debated staying for another night, but a snowstorm is coming in tonight and he was scared off by the thought of driving in snow. It was nice to have him visit.

This morning after he left, Jeff had already gone into to work, and my truck wouldn’t start! Turns out all the short little trips I do in my truck aren’t long enough to give the battery a proper charge. Jeff came home from work and gave me a boost!

Jeff is gone next week on a deer hunting trip with friends. I know my blogging has been sparse lately, but you know how chatty/lonely I am when he is gone – I’m sure I’ll blog more next week.

Jeff’s been busy packing up his house and reorganizing my garage to store our stuff in it. He is giving up his rental house for the end of the year and moving in with me. It’ll save him a lot of money compared to renting a house he was hasn’t used much lately. So far so good. Tonight we’re moving over his entertainment system and big TV and putting mine in storage.

Here is a list of free stuff you can speak for otherwise we might chuck:

  • BBQ – basic model, no propane tank, lighter button still works well
  • TV – 19 inch, colour, no remote, but works with a universal remote
  • Downhill skis – ladies – probably about a size 8, good for someone shorter than me – comes with poles and boots
  • Set of white Corale dishes – big plates (8), little plates (8), mugs (4)
  • more to come

Global Warming.. My Ass!

I don’t ever remember having to shovel my driveway on a November 3rd before!

Mind you, the forecasters are promising +11C over the weekend, so I only had to shovel the heavy deep snow out of the end of the driveway where the snowplow dumped it!

The best part of heavy snow is its ability to weigh bushes down to the ground. Now at work I can see out of my ground-level window again because the snow has flattened the pine bushes :>>

Patting Myself on the Back

I’m patting myself on the back this morning for having the foresight to put my snow tires on last week.

This morning there is only about a centimeter of snow on the ground (with probably 20 more on the way this afternoon), but it was enough to cover all the streets in town with glare ice and black ice. You know the kind (okay in Lisa in Texas probably doesn’t), the kind that makes the entire street surface into a slick rink begging for a sander (that never came…).

If I hadn’t had my snow tires on, I wouldn’t have made it two blocks from my house. My truck just isn’t maneuverable with all season tires in the winter. Of course the tires are better in snow that on ice, but they still made a huge difference.

Now if only snow tires were mandatory by law!

The weather forecasters have changed our outlook for the winter to one that is colder than average. Woo hoo! Bundle up!
