I have a dirty secret….

…I don’t floss often enough.

I brush my teeth twice a day, but floss is such a pain in the arse. Today I vow to do better, and to floss my teeth daily!! Okay maybe not DAILY, but much more often than I do now!

I went for my cleaning at the dentist today. She spent so much time digging that razer sharp poker around my gums and teeth. I was so sure she was going to tell me I had new cavities, gingivitis, didn’t floss enough, and was an all around bad citizen.

However after 15 minutes of poking, and sucking blood up through her spit vacuum, and asking me if I was still alright, she said “Everything looks good here! What colour of toothbrush would you like.”

My teeth and gums are pulsing right now. My mouth is so sore. So tonight I’m going to skip flossing, but tomorrow, I’m going to FLOSS!

The Lake House, Nacho Libre, U571

Here is my movie round-up for the weekend.

The Lake House – Good movie. I give it a 4.5/5. It has a unique story. I like Sandra Bullock. I can’t stand Keenu Reeves but was comforted when I saw he has a really bad side to his face – full of pock marks and oldness. haha.
Anyway, I don’t want to spoil too much of the movie, but it’s a nice slow moving chick flick where two people are communicating through time through a mailbox at a lake house.

Nacho Libre – I am a big fan of Jack Black, but this movie really sucked. It didn’t show any of his charm or humour. It was short and not very memorable. I give it a 1.5/5.

U571 – This movie is 6 years old, but I hadn’t seen it until yesterday when it was on A&E. Jeff watches alot of war, cowboy, and black and white movies that don’t interest me in the slightest, however this one grabbed me right away when I walked in shortly after it started. It’s a submarine movie from the second world war. Lots of intense drama and suspense. I really enjoyed it. 4.5/5

I’m really big on the half-points lately! :D

Worthy Cause

When I was reading the online edition of the Listowel Banner this morning, I caught the story of my kindergarten teacher Mrs. Collinson who was behind a donation from the Women’s Institute to the Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warrior Fund.

Mike McTeague grew up in Atwood, had Mrs. Collinson was his kindergarten teacher too. Earlier this year when he was serving in Afghanistan and was handing out candy to children, the suicide bomber on a bicycle stopped by to blow them all up.

Mike survived and is recovering at the St. John’s Rehab Centre in Toronto. Unfortunately, although his medical bills are covered (he has multiple broken bones and internal injuries and burns), there is nothing for him and the other recovering soldiers to do. Even a TV in the room costs $10 a day to rent.

A 13 year old student in Port Hope got the idea to start the Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warrior Fund. It aims to put together a package of entertainment for the recovering soldiers – things like DVD’s, CD’s, books, iPods, games, electronics.

They have already raised $22,000 and aim to have raising $100,000 before spring when the chances of being injured by the Taliban is the greatest.

If you want to donate, send a cheque to the Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warrior Fund at PO Box 141, Stn. Brooklin, Whitby, Ont., L1M 1B5.

She Picked The Other One

Well the $58K house is off the market this morning, so I’ll assume the lady who looked at them both on Friday picked the other one.

Oh well. We’re busy moving Jeff in to my house and cleaning up his house and throwing out more of our stuff so we aren’t too bothered by not selling it.

The price is now officially $54,900 now though. It took an extra couple of days because I apparently faxed back the signed paper upside down so they just got a blank page ;-) Must have been some universal cosmic reason for that.

AllAdvantage – Get Paid to Surf the Net!

Remember AllAdvantage – the toolbar that let you show ads while you surfed and you made money?? Brian and I actually got real CHEQUES in the mail. Only they paid out more than they earned and they went belly up.

Well now they are back and they are called AGLOCO (it stands for A Global Community).

The toolbar is currently in Beta, but you can start building your network now so you are ready to go!

This time it’s a little different. You earn a share of what the toolbar makes (so they can’t pay out what they don’t have!)

Okay quit waiting – go sign up – you can’t lose:
www.agloco.com/r/BBBB1693

By the way, AGLOCO only went live THIS WEEK so you’ll be in on the GROUND floor. Then refer it to other people like crazy so you can make money from all of their surfing too!

Do it now!

PLEASE use my referral code! It is BBBB1693 – if you don’t use my referral code, I’ll sic Zeus on you!! You know I will!

Customs Search, Georges Kicks ASS, and Now it’s a Bargain

Customs Search

We went over to Michigan on Saturday for a little shopping, to pick up a parcel, and to eat some REAL pizza (Sault, Ontario has the worst pizza in the world).

We travel back and forth to Sault, Michigan several times a year, and I’ve lived here for 5.5 years, and this was the first time we were searched.

We told the guy at the booth how much we were bringing in and Jeff went inside to pay the taxes. On his way back out, I guess the two search guards were bored, so they asked me to get out of the truck and they went through all our purchases and the rest of the truck.

See now this is why we tally everything we bought. We could have just mentioned the value of the parcels Jeff was picking up, and assumed the rest was insignificant, but we would have been nailed for lying. Might as well be honest! So we weren’t held up too long.

Georges Kicks Ass

Anyone else a UFC fan?

The best fight ever was on Saturday night. My favourite fighter is Georges St. Pierre from Quebec. He comes across as such a nice guy, polite, and very athletic. A good Canadian boy. He finally got a title fight against Matt Hughes for the Welterweight title.

Matt Hughes comes across as a smug bastard. He wanted to knock out Georges so bad. But Georges was so determined he kicked Matt’s ass and ended it in the second round of 5.

I was looking forward to the fight for weeks. I so badly wanted Georges to win, but Matt has held the title for a long time. Even though Matt has never knocked anyone out, he is good at the submissions. Not this time! He didn’t even get Georges on the ground once!

The fight was on pay per view, but you can watch it here:

Now it’s a bargain

I dropped the price of my house to $54,900 today from $59,000. The word is that the lady who looked at my house last Friday liked it, but didn’t like it. Who knows what the truth is because I’m sure the truth is heavily filtered between the client, the two real estate agents, and myself. Maybe the $5k reduction will spark her interest.

It’s sad that my house and lot on the other side of town could have easily sold for $75K in probably under a week.

House Showing this afternoon

After eons, my real estate agent has resurfaced and left a message that another agent is going to show my house this afternoon at 3:30pm.

Damn that Jeff, gets off easy and doesn’t have to listen to me whine as I clean up the house.

These people are looking at houses in the area and will buy one of them. Competition is steep – here is another house they’ll be looking at:

http://www.mls.ca/PropertyDetails.aspx?PropertyID=4969616

mine is:

http://www.mls.ca/PropertyDetails.aspx?PropertyID=4973099

The other one has already been reduced. It has a large parking lot beside it and is closer to the mill, but has a basement. I have a garage and a bit bigger lot. They have a bigger kitchen. I guess it all depends on what they are looking for. I’m not getting too excited about it.

I’ll have to go home at lunch and get the dogs out of there and do the final vacuum and mop. It’s muddy paw season. An ugly season to show a house. Ah well.

Borat

I took my date (ok I lied, I went by myself) to see the Borat movie tonight.

The 7:15 show on a Wednesday was good for the choice of seating, since it was showing in the biggest theatre, and there was only maybe 20 of us in there. I chose the middle seat in the back row of course. Then 4 other copycats came to sit in the back row too, even though there was about 50 other empty rows.

Anyway, the one thing about seeing a funny movie in an empty theatre is the fact that I could only hear myself laughing.

Borat is a funny movie. It is completely unique. Just be sure to check all of your easy-offended nerves at the door because this movie is going to try every angle possible to offend you. If you let that all go, you’ll laugh your ass off.

I give it a 4/5 for adding many good laughs to my otherwise dull day!

Mozilla Firefox 2.0

For the techies out there…

I upgraded to Mozilla Firefox 2.0 for my browser a couple weeks ago.

There are a few GREAT updates in this version. Here are my two favourite:

Spell Check: Now the spell check is built in to the browser. So every time you are typing online – in a form – like if you decide to leave a comment here – it checks your spelling as you type. All misspelled words are underlined in red. Then you can right click and choose the proper spelling. This is how I found out that I’ve been spelling weird wrong my entire life. I really need to retrain my fingers now because it’s extremely difficult now to hit that e and i in the opposite order than I used to hit them in!

Save on crash: Every once in awhile your browser is bound to crash. Now when you restart your browser after a crash, it asks you if you would like to restore all the windows you had open. Yes, that is right, they are not gone!! Fantastic!!

Another neat thing is that it checks for updates for your extensions before it completely loads your browser and prompts if you would like to install the upgrade. That way you don’t have to wait until the next time you restart your browser to use the updated extension.

I wasn’t prompted that there was an update so you may have to go to http://mozilla.com to download.

That took HOURS

After what feels like a million hours of updating code over the past few weeks, I have uploaded all that code to the internet to finally redesign my CanadianGoldens.com website with a modern look.

CanadianGoldens.com is one of my oldest sites – back to 1999. It is so large that even though so many of the features are programmed so that I only have to make a change in one file to show on all the files – ie. the sidebar links, when I want to redesign the layout, it involves manually editing almost every page.

While it is still not bug free, I had to stop procrastinating and I made it live tonight. Check it out – http://CanadianGoldens.com It isn’t a drastic change for the viewer, but it is certainly nicer.

At the same time, I got rid of the www part of the url. I hate www so now if you use www it will forward you to the www-less address.

Another bonus for today – across all of my sites today I have made almost double in ad revenue than my all-time daily high.

After I squash any bugs from the transfer on CanadianGoldens.com, then I can start adding updates and few features again. I was really hating that old look .. for at least a year… ’bout time Jeff went away so I could get some work done. HA just kidding Jeff, I miss you, shoot your deer and hurry home.
