My wall looks even better now!

J. and I went to two auctions this weekend – a police auction and an auction of the rest of the stock of a closing furniture store. When we arrived at the furniture store to look around, I didn’t see anything that really caught my eye, until I noticed the Golden Retriever framed art print on the wall.

There was just something about the Golden – perhaps the look on his face reminded me of my dogs, I am not sure – but for the first time of all the auctions we’ve been to, I actually really wanted something! And I got it! For only $25!

Golden Art Print

It has a beautiful oak frame and is over 2 feet tall and closer to 3 wide. It has two layers of matting – really beautiful. It is a print, but the original was definitely a painting. I’ll have to research and see if I can find out anything more about it.

I had to take the photo on an angle so the flash wouldn’t reflect off the glass. It looks really nice on my bedroom wall with the blue paint I have in there (thanks Mom for painting that when I moved in!).

It must be a bargain because when I tried to frame a much smaller photo of Winger and Surf a couple weeks ago, the framing store wanted to charge me $198 for the frame and matting! (No I didn’t pay it, I went to Walmart and framed it for $20).

Big Love

My interest was tweaked just enough with the initial advertising that I just had to give ‘Big Love‘ a try.

The first two shows seemed so ridiculous to me – like they were trying to be so extreme and controversial, just to make people watch. In fact, the first two episodes I watched, I turned it off before it was over!

But I tuned in again the next week.

And now I’m hooked. It worked. The show theme is so crazy, yet I haven’t missed another second of the show and look foward to it every week!

Okay, so what is this profound show I’m carrying on about?

Big Love is about a family of polygamists in Utah. The father, Bill Paxton, has three wives, Barb, Nicki, and Margene. Between the 3 wives, Bill has fathered 7 children.

Because polygamy is illegal, they try to keep their family life a secret. They have three houses, side by side, on a typical subdivision street. Only their backyards are attached as one big yard with a pool. When Bill comes home from work, he enters his first wife’s home, and if it isn’t her ‘night’, then he says his hellos and continues on out the back door and into the home of the wife who is scheduled to be with him that night.

The entire thing is crazy, and I can’t imagine what woman in their right mind would ever want to share her husband, let alone a husband dealing with 3 wives!

The storylines are catching and continue on each week as most television dramas do. The character development is fantastic. I am compelled to care for them all (well maybe not the evil Roman, one of Bill’s father-in-laws.

Big Love airs on the Movie Network on Sunday nights at 10pm (after Sopranos).

First in Group!

Monty's Ribbons

Monty was entered in a fun match yesterday – it’s a practice dog show.

He got a first in breed (okay, so he was the only Golden entered).

Then he got a sporting dog group 1st!! (okay so he only beat one other dog – a 3 month old cocker).

He did really really well. We didn’t win for best puppy or best in show, but that’s okay. It was good practise for the shows he is entered in on the May long weekend.

My New Outdor Fireplace

My new outdoor fireplace

Here’s my new outdoor fireplace! We had a nice fire last night using some of the firewood we had left over from camping last year.

I bought 4 new sidewalk-like patio stones to make the area square – no idea why they didn’t buy and put in those extra 4 stones before. They were heavy as hell. They still need to be adjusted to be perfectly flat, but I need J. to help me because I was killing my back trying to lift them and shove dirt in the right place to flatten them.

Today we have a fun match dog show to go to. I got up at 6:30 and now Monty is groomed. He isn’t too hard since he doesn’t have a thick long coat yet. I decided not to bath him since it’s only a fun match. Unfortunately the jeans I was going to wear today finally gave out during yard rearranging yesterday with a big hole so I either have to come up with something in my closet or run to the mall before we head out for noon.

Sunny Day Off

I took the day off today to spend with Mom and Grandma. It’s 7:25 so they are probably still sleeping away in their hotel room. We went to the casino last night for a little gambling and eating. I played $20 and won back $40 so it was a profitable evening for me. Mom and Grandma weren’t so lucky this time.

I have to say though that the Sault Ste. Marie’s Charity casino restaurant has gone WAY WAY WAY down hill. They used to have such a wide selection and had incredible roast beef and turkey dinners. Not anymore. I ended up having just a clubhouse sandwich and fries. Disappointing, but I used to recommend that restaurant as one of the best in town. Now it’s nothing special at all.

I’m not sure what’s on tap for today. Grandma said she wanted some time off to just be quiet and read. I really think she just wants Mom and I to get lost so she can go back to the casino and win her money back. hehehe

Monty let me sleep until almost 7am this morning! What is up with that!?! I loved it!

Open Source Blows

Okay I like using open source blog scripts, but they are a security NIGHTMARE!

All of my blogs were hacked over the weekend. Well hacked in as much as the sidebars of all my blogs were erased and many of my files were edited, but they did it all without accessing the admin panel with my login and password. It likely has to do with SQL injection and a default setting I have since changed in my PHP installation.

Nitty gritty details later. It’s 9pm and my Mom and Grandma are coming tomorrow and my house is a total disaster. I need to start cleaning, even though I REALLY want to sit here and restore the sidebars on my sites.

Edit: Thanks Google – I used your cache to restore my sidebars. 9:21pm. Better start on the dishes….

Easter Long Weekend

Fabulous Easter long weekend. I had a “to do” list a mile long and did just about none of it. Perfect! Instead I enjoyed the sun, my pillow, J’s company, my puppy, some retriever training, some shopping, and some exercising.

Are you ready for this? It’s 9:44pm and I’m at… drum roll…. 10707 steps for the day!! Twice in 3 days I walked to J’s house. It’s a 45 minute walk so it adds probably 5-6K steps to my normal day.

Today I bought myself a present. I have wanted an outdoor fireplace for at least 4 years now. I finally have one! I am expecting a decent sized check from a client, so I will take it out of there and put the rest towards debt payments. J. the magnificant put it together for me. It had lots of parts and even more screws and nuts and bolts. I will have to take a photo to share with you. Now I just have to call the Fire Inspector tomorrow for a burning permit so we can start a fire! I’m really excited for it!

I also had to buy new glasses today – but that money will be refunded through my medical coverage. The frame on my glasses snapped yesterday. Walmart has stopped doing eye exams for some reason, so they got me into an optometrist in town today so I already had my eyes rechecked. It had been about 3 years and my prescription changed slightly, so it was probably a good idea. Only he did a check for glaucoma – he squirted something into each eye that came out like yellow paint. OOO it burned! I guess I’ll be wearing contacts only as it’ll take 5-7 business days to get my glasses.

Well Mom and Grandma are coming up on Wednesday. I have about 750 hours of housecleaning to do before then, so I’m not really sure how I’m going to work them all in – especially since I’m crawling into bed as soon as I finish this blog entry. Monty has conformation classes tomorrow night too. Oh well.

Today is my sister’s 26th birthday!! Happy Birthday Julikins!!!

G’nite all!

Inside Man

Inside Man J. and I went to see “Inside Man” last night at the theatre. I love going to the theatre!!! Sure was a lot of slutty looking teenage girls in the front lobby. It was packed with youngsters, but they picked a different movie. Seriously, when the last generation hit 30, did they think all young girls dressed too slutty? I had a hard time spotting a girl who was dressed appropriately. The rest of them I wouldn’t have let out of my house. Anyway, back to the movie…

Inside Man is directed by Spike Lee and stars Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, and Christopher Plummer. Let me set it up for you. It’s a bank robber movie with hostages and a dedicated hostage negotiator. Okay, that’s all you get – you have to go watch to find out the rest!

I enjoyed the movie and I give it a 4 out of 5. I think Dad and Brian would enjoy it. It’s not a fast action movie, but rather one with some suspense and thinking. Not a Shawshank Redemption, but good and I’d saw I’d probably watch it again.

AND, it was was nice and long. Nothing worse than going to the theatre and feeling your movie was too short ;-) The first half hour of entertainment news, trivia, and commercials was enjoyable too.
