It’s a shame sometimes that I have ethics. I took some really nice close up photos on Thursday of some co-workers during our afternoon team building session. Unfortunately I don’t feel it is right for me to share their pictures on the internet with out their permission, so unless I get that permission, I guess I won’t share! It’s a shame because they really show the zoom capabilities of the Kodak Easyshare Z740. I did forget to use the red-eye reduction feature (hey, I’m still learning!) but it wasn’t a problem as the room had plenty of natural light.

Easter Long Weekend
Well it’s the Easter long weekend – 4 days off work – woo hooo! Good opportunity to play with my new Kodak Easyshare Z740! I took a few shots today, nothing too fantastic – a few on the river of some barges, the international bridge, and a few of the dogs in the backyard. The weather has been so nice and the snow is quickly melting. I even have growth in my front flower garden! The tulip bulbs are a couple centimetres out of the soil!

River Shots

I went down to the river as promised, but it was quite overcast so I just took a few shots of a US Coast Guard boat going by. The American locks just opened up today for the start of the 2005 shipping season. The ice breakers were busy earlier in the week opening up the river.

I used the electronic view finder to take these as it was one of those overcast but still bright on the eyes kind of days. It works well. I set the camera to landscape for a few photos to experiment, but when I wasn’t, the zoom and auto-focus worked so well from way across the river.

Photos Soon
I’m planning to take some river shots today if the weather holds. Yesterday was just too cloudy and I didn’t think the photos would be as stunning as they could be in full sun!
In the meantime, here are more of the photos I took in the first 2 days of owning the camera.

I really love the sound themes on this camera! I know, I’m easily amused. I currently have it on sci-fi.
First Outdoor Shots
Took the dogs for a walk in a conservation area so I was able to try out my new Kodak Easyshare Z740 outside. I didn’t try any of the scene modes and just left the camera on auto to see how the photos would turn out.
When I look over the thumbnails of the photos I took, there is a drastic difference in the snow colour depending on the amount of light. Some of the shots look really blue. On second thought, I should have tried to compose a shot and try one on auto and one using the snow scene to compare the difference. I will try that next time if the snow doesn’t melt away too fast!
Here are a few of my photos. The bridge photo was taken from quite far away. I just love the zoom on this camera!

First Night with New Camera
I was so excited to get my new camera and start taking pictures right away. Well I forgot something! I had to charge the batteries first!!
Since I bought the Kodak Easyshare Z740 bundled with the Kodak Easyshare Printer Dock 3, I set up the printer dock which allows you to set your camera on top of it and it charged the batteries. The manual said it could take up to 3 hours but I don’t think it took quite that long. It gave me time to actually read the manual instead of just guessing at how to use the camera!
When it was finally charged I was ready to go. But by then it was dark, so what is better to practice your photography on than PETS! Here are some samples of my first photos ever with a digital camera so don’t be expecting the world’s best photos.

The New Camera is HERE!
Waiting for my new camera occupied a lot of my time. Seriously. There is nothing like tracking a UPS parcel on their online parcel tracking system. It looked like it was coming directly to me, only to make a large detour west. But I got lucky, my camera was here within a week from placing my order.
I bought the new Kodak EasyShare Z740 bundled with the Kodak Easyshare Printer Dock 3. Now I have never used a digital camera. Everyone around me has one, but I just had never made the move to buy one. Once I decided that I MUST have one, it was fun to narrow down the selection to the one that I wanted.
The reason I picked the Z740 was mainly for its 10x optical zoom. I had seen many of my friend’s photos from smaller point and shoot digital camera and so many of them looked like they could have benefited from more zoom.
Once I picked the camera I wanted, the waiting game began! Why? Because the Kodak Easyshare Z740 wasn’t even released yet!
Daily I tracked different websites waiting for its release and to watch for any product reviews. One of my favorite digital photo forums that I tracked was Digital Photography Review. They have excellent forums for dicussion of all digital camera and digital photography in general.
Finally when my camera was released for purchase, I couldn’t find it in stores in Canada anywhere! I finally found one overpriced one, but none of the major electronic department stores carried it, so I caved and purchased it from a camera store in New York city for a reasonable price. I must say it is difficult to find a photo store in the USA that will ship to Canada for a reasonable price! I purchased my camera from B&H Photo Video. Excellent service and UPS’s Expedited delivery was super speedy, even if I did get dinged for an additional $85 duty (grrrrrr…)
Anyway, on to the photos!
About Lisa
I am Lisa V. I am 30 years old and live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada with my dog and cat. My blog has been rather over run this past year with me blogging about my two beautiful Golden Retrievers who died this past fall, back to back, less than two months apart. Sorry about that, but this is good therapy. My heart aches for them.
Luckily their nephew Monty was born in the fall and came home to live with me when he was 8 weeks old, just before Christmas. He’s a real fun puppy and he’s doing a remarkable job of keeping my spirits up.
As for hobbies, I enjoy being outside, but I am too often found attached to my desktop computer since my laptop passed on. I love campfires, swims in clean remote northern Ontario lakes, hiking in the woods, walking my dog, and fiddling around in my backyard. Now that I own a house, my backyard is my outdoor sanctuary where I can be found planting flowers in my garden and flower boxes, listening to CBC on my wind-up radio, and striving to keep my lawn dog-poop free. Now that I have an outdoor fireplace, I can feed my campfire pyromaniac tendencies as well. Can’t wait!
I have a thirst for knowledge. I used to read through piles of books in a flash, but since I’m moved to my desk chair, I do most of my reading and learning online. I find I no longer have the patience to read books – I want to know what I want to know without wading through the rest of the content. Search engines are my tool of choice!
I have a strong passion for web site creation – not just ordinary sites – but dynamic sites with reader interaction. I work during the day as a Web Programmer for the Canadian Government, but I long for the day I can work on my creations for home full-time. The pace of government design is exhausting, surprisingly enough, because it is so slow. I thrive under stricter deadlines and pressure, even if it’s self-imposed. Many nights I’ll refuse to go to bed until I get a script written and running flawlessly! So far, I’m fairly competent with Perl, MySQL, ColdFusion, Oracle, PHP, CSS, HTML, and now I’m learning VB.NET. Scripting in Perl with a MySQL database is my preference.
